The spirit of patriotism and pride is on full display as Imbali from across Eswatini arrive at the Ludzidzini Royal Residence, marking the start of this year’s annual Umhlanga Reed Dance ceremony.
Dressed in traditional regalia and arriving in high spirits, the Imbali brought excitement, energy and a deep sense of pride in Eswatini’s rich culture and heritage.
The colourful gathering brings together Imbali from different parts of the country as they prepare to uphold and celebrate one of the Kingdom’s most cherished cultural traditions.
The atmosphere at Ludzidzini is already buzzing as the country prepares for a celebration of culture, unity, identity and patriotism.
Tomorrow, the Imbali will pay a courtesy call to Her Majesty, the Indlovukazi at the Ludzidzini Royal Residence before proceeding on foot to Ngabezweni Royal Residence, where they will be commissioned by His Majesty King Mswati III.
As has become customary, the journey will be marked by song and dance, showcasing the country’s rich cultural heritage.
Thereafter, the Imbali will proceed to cut the reed, with senior maidens heading to Mpisi Farm, while the younger maidens will cut the reed at Masundvwini.
Upon returning from the reed-cutting exercise, the maidens will rest on Saturday before delivering the reeds before Their Majesties in preparation for the Main Day on Monday.
The Umhlanga Reed Dance remains one of the Kingdom’s most treasured cultural events, bringing together Emaswati from across the country in a celebration of culture, unity and national identity.
