The separate funerals for Thulani Ginindza and Princess Nunu Johnson proceeded peacefully, however, no one spoke on behalf of the in-laws at either funeral.

The funerals, which were held at different locations and on different dates, took place over the weekend. Johnson’s funeral was held at her home in KaMfishane, Hlatsi, yesterday, while Ginindza’s funeral took place at his home in Magubheleni on Saturday.

Both funerals were conducted peacefully but were marked by deep emotion from mourners on both sides, particularly the children and siblings of the deceased.

Ginindza and Johnson were married and had four children together.

On January 2, the nation woke up to shocking news that Ginindza had murdered his wife in cold blood after stabbing her 16 times, leading to her death. After being placed on the police most-wanted list, Ginindza was found six days later hanging in a forest in a decomposed state.

At Ginindza’s funeral, when his in-laws were invited to share their final words, no one came forward to represent them.

Night vigils were held for both funerals and were attended by family members, friends, and community members.

At Ginindza’s funeral, his children, while sharing their final words, said they still needed time with their father.

Ginindza’s body arrived in the morning and was transported directly from the mortuary to the tent, without first being taken to his homestead.

Speeches followed from his family, his mother’s family, the church, and his siblings.

Most speakers extended condolences to the children, who were now left without both parents. His sister said the family was shocked by his sudden death.

Meanwhile, during Johnson’s funeral, her friends urged both families to take good care of her children, stating that there was nothing Johnson would not have done for them.

Her siblings and children cried uncontrollably as her coffin was lowered into the grave.
