PRIME Minister Russell Mmiso Dlamini says although the country seems to be developing slowly, it was on the right track, developing in its own unique way.
Dlamini, who was the keynote speaker during the second Eswatini Development Forum 2026, held at Ezulwini Palazzo yesterday said the country’s urbanisation might appear slower than that of other African countries, but it would be developed sooner than anyone realised.
He said many locals valued the space and living conditions offered by rural areas, where they could access amenities such as clean water while travelling to urban centres for work.
Dlamini encouraged citizens to contribute towards the country’s development to improve living conditions, stressing that people needed to keep moving forward.
“The world was moving forward, not backwards, hence everyone needed to move and not be stagnant,” he said.
The PM also emphasised the importance of having clear development plans, challenging municipalities to establish blueprints to guide the growth of their towns and cities.
Drawing from the teachings of civil rights leader Martin Luther King Jr, Dlamini stressed that development required people to keep progressing, regardless of their circumstances.
He said municipalities needed to develop plans and ensure that they were implemented to achieve their intended objectives.
Dlamini further underscored the importance of the forum in shaping the development of cities and communities, reminding municipal employees that their work played a critical role in improving people’s lives.
He urged them to recognise the importance of their responsibilities and commit themselves to delivering on their mandates.
