SOCCER – The wait is finally over.
The 2026 8BET Trade Fair Cup bursts into life today, ushering in another season of knockout football where one mistake can end a campaign and one moment of brilliance can change a team’s destiny.
The 16 participating clubs will battle for the first piece of silverware of the new season after 8BET and the Premier League of Eswatini (PLE) officially launched the competition.
With every match carrying enormous stakes, the tournament promises drama, upsets and high-intensity football as teams chase glory at the Mavuso Sports Centre.
Today, we preview the opening triple-header.
Nsingizini out to defend crown

Defending champions Nsingizini Hotspurs begin their title defence today when they face newly-promoted Madlenya in what could prove to be a fascinating last-16 encounter.
With the first prize of the new campaign at stake and the revamped prize structure offering E660 000 to the winner, the stakes are already high.
Nsingizini have established themselves as one of the dominant forces in domestic cup football in recent seasons and will be determined to start their 8BET Trade Fair Cup campaign on a winning note.
Playing in front of their supporters, the Shiselweni-based side will be expected to take the initiative from the opening whistle. But knockout football offers no room for complacency. One poor performance can bring an entire campaign to an abrupt end, and Madlenya will be hoping to exploit any uncertainty in the champions’ ranks.
The newly-promoted side return to top-flight football with an opportunity to make an immediate statement against one of the country’s most formidable cup sides.
Madlenya recently made a coaching change, with former Manzini Wanderers mentor Gcina Dlamini taking over from William ‘Masondeza’ Gamedze. The Siphofaneni-based outfit will draw confidence from their belief that they can compete with the country’s biggest clubs and will look to frustrate Nsingizini through a disciplined and organised approach.
Eliminating the defending champions would not only send Madlenya into the quarter-finals but would also serve as an early warning to the rest of the competition.
Nsingizini, meanwhile, will be keen to remind everyone why they are among the tournament’s most successful sides. The champions have the experience, but Madlenya have the hunger. Something will have to give.

A familiar rivalry takes centre stage when Mbabane Highlanders AM lock horns with Ubombo Sugar in what promises to be a feisty opening encounter.
The two sides have developed a competitive rivalry in recent seasons and, with new coaches now at the helm, today’s last-16 clash could add another chapter to their history.
Highlanders had the bragging rights the last time the sides met, securing a 2-0 victory at Mayaluka Stadium last season.
Ubombo Sugar, however, enter today’s contest with a significantly reshaped squad. Among their new faces is former Mbabane Highlanders captain Siphamandla Maseko, whose experience and physical presence in midfield could prove crucial.
The industrial midfielder will be eager to make an immediate impact against his former club and help the Sugar Boys send the Highlanders faithful home disappointed.
Former Nsingizini Hotspurs coach Terisayi Changara will lead Ubombo from the dugout, assisted by Siza ‘King Pele’ Dlamini. Highlanders, meanwhile, have retained the bulk of their squad while adding several exciting new faces.
One of the most intriguing storylines will be the return of former Ubombo Sugar captain Gcina ‘Mkholo’ Matsebula, who will now wear the black-and-white colours after leaving the sugar-belt side. Percy Shongwe and Thembela Dlamini will also face their former employers, having joined Floyd Mogale’s technical team as assistants. With familiarity on both sides and plenty of personal history, this could be far more than an ordinary cup tie.

Moneni Pirates begin their 8BET Trade Fair Cup campaign under the Mavuso Sports Centre floodlights tonight when they face the ambitious Ezulwini United.
The Buccaneers will be aiming to secure a place in the quarter-finals, but they will have to negotiate the tricky Stingers without several key players. Pirates will be without first-choice goalkeeper Qiniso ‘Kati’ Nyawo, overlapping left-back Vukile Khumalo and anchorman Phila Dlamini after the trio were released by the club following reported misconduct issues.
Their absence represents a significant blow, but Pirates still possess enough quality to cause problems for Ezulwini United. Leading the Buccaneers’ attacking threat will be Senanelo Nkambule, who finished as the team’s leading goalscorer last season.
The lanky striker has developed a reputation for producing when the pressure is at its highest and will be expected to spearhead the Pirates attack. In midfield, Biko Sibandze’s ability and composure on the ball could prove decisive. The talented midfielder has already established himself as an influential figure and will be tasked with controlling the tempo.
Standing in Pirates’ way are the ‘Stingers’, who will fancy their chances of causing an upset.
The two clubs have developed a relatively young rivalry, adding another layer of intrigue to a contest where there is no margin for error.
Under the Mavuso floodlights, both sides know that 90 minutes could determine whether their cup dreams continue or end.
