ATHLETICS – ATHLETES have been urged to register early for the 2026 Imbube Marathon before the early bird deadline, after which entry fees will increase by E100 per category.

Eswatini National Provident Fund (ENPF) reminded runners that the discounted registration period ends on July 30, leaving just over two weeks for participants to secure the lower rates for the country’s flagship road race.

The eighth edition of the Imbube Marathon has officially opened registrations and is expected to attract thousands of local, regional and international runners. The race also serves as an official qualifier for both the Comrades Marathon and the Two Oceans Marathon, making it one of the most important events in the country’s athletics calendar.

Local athletes can currently register for the 42km race at E365, the 21km race at E335 and the 10km race at E310. The 3.3km fun run remains free for local athletes living with disabilities and elderly participants aged over 60.

However, ENPF have warned that once the early bird window closes, registration fees for every category would increase by E100, making it more expensive for late entrants.

Athletes are encouraged to register online through the official Imbube Marathon website to avoid the last-minute rush. Those who are unable to register online will also have an opportunity to enter in person.

Senior Marketing and Communication Officer Mlungisi Dlamini said walk-in registrations would be accepted at ENPF offices, where participants could pay in cash.

He encouraged runners not to wait until the final days before registering.

“We encourage athletes to take advantage of the early bird registration period before it closes on July 30. After that, every category will increase by E100. Those who cannot register online can visit the ENPF offices and register in person. We expect another successful edition of the Imbube Marathon and urge everyone to secure their place early,” said Dlamini.

The marathon has grown into one of Eswatini’s premier races, attracting elite athletes, recreational runners and families each year.

Besides offering athletes a chance to test themselves over different race distances, the event continues to promote healthy living, tourism and sports development while giving competitive runners an opportunity to qualify for internationally recognised marathons.

Dlamini said they believe early registration would help participants prepare adequately for race day and ensure a smooth registration process ahead of another highly anticipated edition of the Imbube Marathon.
