Learners gear up for external exams

LEARNERS are set for an examination marathon stretching from early October into November.

Timetables issued by the Examinations Council of Eswatini (ECESWA) show that examinations for the Eswatini General Certificate of Secondary Education (EGCSE), International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) and Eswatini Prevocational Certificate of Secondary Education (EPCSE) will run from October 6 to November 11.

The first paper to be written will be Additional Mathematics on October 6, while the final paper, history, is scheduled for November 11.

Among the early papers are design and technology, mathematics and technical studies, while subjects such as accounting, English Language, literature in english, Siswati, physical science, geography and history are spread across the following weeks.

Meanwhile, the Junior Certificate (JC) final examinations will begin on October 19, with English Language paper 1 scheduled for the morning, followed by agriculture paper 1 in the afternoon.

The final JC paper, development studies, is scheduled for November 9, bringing the JC examination period to a close.

The JC timetable includes major subjects such as mathematics, English Language, Siswati, science, geography, history, business studies and religious education, with papers generally scheduled in morning and afternoon sessions.

Additionally, the Eswatini Primary School Assessment (EPSA), formerly known as the Eswatini Primary Certificate, will run from November 2 to November 13.

The two-week assessment period will begin with social studies paper 1 in the morning, followed by science paper 1 in the afternoon.

Candidates will conclude their examinations with expressive arts, which is scheduled for the morning session.

The staggered timetables will require candidates, schools and examination centres to manage preparations over an extended period, with examinations spread across several weeks rather than concentrated within a short examination window.
