SOCCER – Manzini Wanderers are taking their fight for top-flight survival to Killarney Stadium today, as the Hub giants swap their traditional training base for a change of scenery they hope will arrest a disastrous run of form.

Rooted at the foot of the table after a harrowing campaign, the Manzini side will conduct a high-stakes morning session away from the distractions of the city, in a move designed to sharpen the minds of an embattled squad.

Club Communications Manager Sandile ‘Ntofo’ Dlamini confirmed the relocation, suggesting that a mental reset was now as vital as tactical drilling if the club is to avoid the drop.

“We shall be having our morning training session tomorrow (today) at Killarney to familiarise our players with the ground,” Dlamini stated.

“We also like the morning cool weather. Another key purpose of this training outside Manzini is to enhance focus on the players. A change of scenery can act as a boost to morale and foster a positive attitude.”

The move underlines the mounting pressure on head coach Nyanga ‘Crooks’ Hlophe, whose side has endured a season of historic struggle.

The statistics make grim reading:

  • 13 defeats

  • 1 victory in 14 outings

  • 7 points accumulated

With just 12 fixtures remaining to escape the relegation zone, every training session now carries the weight of survival.

For a club of Wanderers’ stature, the threat of relegation is no longer distant — it is immediate.

Despite their league woes, Wanderers are attempting to maintain a united sporting presence.

Following the Killarney session, the squad is expected to attend Ingwenyama Cup matches as spectators, demonstrating solidarity despite their early elimination.

“Despite being out of the competition, we are still in full support. We therefore urge our supporters to go to the stadiums,” added Dlamini.

However, the camaraderie will be brief.

A daunting fixture against rivals Mbabane Highlanders looms — a clash that could define Wanderers’ fate.

Whether the morning mist of Killarney provides the clarity and morale needed for a great escape remains uncertain.

But one thing is clear: Manzini Wanderers are leaving no stone unturned in their fight for survival.
