A funeral at Lomshiyo under Ntfonjeni Inkhundla on Saturday turned tense as a family dispute unfolded, with the deceased’s wife being asked to leave the homestead after the burial.

The funeral was for Mfanimpela Dlamini, who was laid to rest following his death over a week ago.

During the service, a member of the deceased’s family announced that they had resolved that his estranged wife should vacate the matrimonial home immediately after the burial.

The announcement drew mixed reactions from mourners, with some expressing shock at the timing and manner in which the matter was raised.

“As a family, we have agreed that the deceased’s wife’s family should take their daughter and vacate the home after the burial,” the family member said.

Efforts were reportedly made to interrupt the address, but the speaker continued.

Some mourners felt the matter should have been handled privately between the two families after the funeral, while others supported the family’s position.

Shortly after the announcement, tensions escalated, resulting in a brief altercation between members of the two families. Community members and community police intervened to restore order.

For safety reasons, the widow and her family left the funeral before the burial proceedings were completed.

The incident has since been widely discussed within the Lomshiyo community.

According to information gathered, the deceased had previously gone missing and was later found dead in a forested area after committing suicide.

The man is said to have committed the act after allegedly discovering that he was not the father to one of his children.

Lomshiyo Indvuna Mnyamuyakhasa Mazibuko said the matter had not yet been formally reported to traditional authorities.

“We have heard about what happened through some of the residents but the matter has not yet been brought to us officially. We will attend to it once it is reported,” he said.

Meanwhile, some mourners also raised concerns regarding the obituary, noting that certain family details were not clearly reflected. However, it could not be independently confirmed whether this was intentional.
