The country has been hailed as a model for other countries after the Global Fund praised its achievements in strengthening its health system and combating HIV, tuberculosis and malaria.
The acclamation was made by Global Fund Head of Grant Management, Mark Edington during a meeting with Prime Minister Russell Mmiso Dlamini and the Eswatini delegation at the organisation’s headquarters in Geneva.
Edington applauded Eswatini for the significant strides it has made in strengthening its health system and advancing the national response to HIV, tuberculosis and malaria. He said the kingdom’s achievements had positioned it as a model for other countries seeking to accelerate progress in public health.
“Eswatini is an example of what can be achieved through strong leadership, effective partnerships and sustained investment in the health sector,” he said, noting that the country’s experience offered valuable lessons for the international community.
Edington also commended the country’s commitment to domestic financing for health, describing it as a demonstration of government’s determination to sustain critical health interventions beyond external support.
He further recognised the kingdom as one of the first countries to roll out Lenacapavir, a milestone he said reflected the country’s readiness to embrace innovative approaches in the fight against HIV.
Responding to the commendation, PM Dlamini reaffirmed government’s commitment to ensuring that all investments made through its partnership with the Global Fund continue to be managed with transparency, accountability and sound public financial management.
He assured the Global Fund that all infrastructure, assets and systems established through the partnership would be properly governed, responsibly maintained, efficiently utilised and sustainably financed to maximise long-term benefits for the country.
The prime minister also expressed government’s appreciation for the Global Fund’s continued support, describing the partnership as instrumental in strengthening Eswatini’s health sector and improving healthcare outcomes.
He reaffirmed the country’s commitment to working closely with the Global Fund to build resilient health systems, expand universal access to quality healthcare, strengthen disease control programmes and advance sustainable national development.
