A 30-year-old man from Sibetsaphi, Siphofaneni was left fighting for his life after he was stabbed by a former convict who held a grudge against him for testifying in court.

The man was stabbed with a sharp object in the neck while at Phumulamcashi last week. Following the incident, the Big Bend police have opened a case of attempted murder.

They are looking for the former convict who remains at large.

According to the police, the victim knew his attacker.

The two met at a local bar at Phumulamcashi, where they got into an argument over a previous incident that had led to the accused’s arrest and conviction.

The suspect is said to have accused the victim of backstabbing him by testifying in court against him in the previous matter last year. He is said to have accused the man of adding false information when testifying in the matter.

In the midst of the argument, the wanted suspect is said to have assaulted the victim and further stabbed him once in the neck.

The victim was rushed to Sithobelweni Hospital by his friends, where he was admitted. His injury was reported to be critical.

The incident was reported to the police almost a week later while the victim remained in hospital.

The police have implored members of the public to convey any information that could assist in the investigation and arrest of the suspect.
