THE Financial Services Regulatory Authority (FSRA) has awarded E15 000 to the top three teams in its Youth Skit Competition, promoting awareness of digital deception and financial scams.
The awards were presented at the FSRA offices yesterday following a competition that attracted 52 skit submissions. Team Abundance emerged as the overall winner, followed by Spear Drama Group and Three Girls, One Mess.
The competition formed part of the FSRA’s investor education and consumer protection campaign commemorating the International Organization of Securities Commissions (IOSCO) World Investor Week, held from October 5-11.
Under the theme ‘Digital Deception and Financial Scams’, participants used drama and storytelling to communicate practical lessons on recognising and preventing financial fraud.
Speaking at the awards ceremony, FSRA Chief Executive Officer Ncamiso Ntshalintshali said the competition demonstrated how creativity could make financial education more accessible, engaging and memorable.
“We evaluated 52 skits—52 creative opportunities to turn an important financial education message into a story that people can relate to and remember,” Ntshalintshali said.
He commended all participants for their teamwork, creativity and commitment, emphasising that recognition extended beyond the winning teams.
He encouraged young people to continue using their talents to educate their peers, families and communities about financial risks.
The entries were assessed independently by judges against four criteria: educational value, relevance to the theme, creativity and delivery, and production quality.
Educational value, thematic relevance and creativity each carried 30 points, while production quality accounted for 10 points.
To safeguard the integrity of the competition, judges signed conflict-of-interest declarations. The FSRA’s Internal Audit function consolidated the independently submitted scores and reviewed them for unusual patterns, significant variances and potential outliers.
Entries also underwent compliance screening covering the permitted duration of 90 seconds, with a 10-second grace period, group size of three to five cast members, appropriate content and completed participant registration.
Following evaluation and audit verification, the top three eligible groups were confirmed for prize allocation.
The competition was one of several FSRA activities during World Investor Week, alongside radio programmes, social media awareness campaigns and a Capital Markets Roundtable Indaba hosted in partnership with the University of Eswatini for final-year commerce students.
The Indaba explored Eswatini’s capital markets, investment opportunities, wealth creation and careers in the financial sector.
The broader campaign sought to improve financial awareness, promote informed investment decisions and help Emaswati recognise scams and avoid financial harm.
