PUPILS from Lomahasha Central High School have taken a significant step towards careers in technology after successfully completing the African Girls Can Code Initiative (AGCCI).

This is a programme aimed at equipping girls with coding and digital skills while helping to close the gender gap in the information and communications technology (ICT) sector.

The school became the sixth and final institution to complete the AGCCI course offered through this year’s International Girls in ICT Day Boot Camp.

To celebrate the achievement, officials from the Ministry of Information, Communications and Technology (ICT), through the Department of Research, Science, Technology and Innovation (RSTI), joined the Ministry of Education and the Eswatini Communications Commission (ESCCOM) at the school on July 6.

The celebration formed part of the Joint Commemoration of Women and Girls in Science and International Girls in ICT Day 2026, reaffirming commitment to empowering girls with digital skills and increasing their participation in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM).

The initiative seeks to prepare more young women to contribute to the country’s growing digital economy.

Addressing the learners, Senior Inspector of ICT Nathi Tsela urged them to make wise decisions and take advantage of opportunities that will shape their future.

“The success of your life will depend on the choices you make,” said Tsela.

He encouraged the girls to believe in themselves, use their time productively and continue developing skills that will prepare them for careers in technology and innovation.

Director of RSTI Dr Rejoice Maseko encouraged the learners to consider careers in STEM, saying, “Science, technology and innovation are vital to Eswatini’s transition to a knowledge-based economy.”

She challenged the girls to use their knowledge to become innovators and problem-solvers who contribute to national development.

The AGCCI programme provides girls with practical coding experience, digital knowledge and confidence to create technology-based solutions.
