FOLLOWING His Majesty King Mswati III’s order for the evacuation of Emaswati that are stranded in the war-torn Gulf region, government has successfully repatriated 25 locals from the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
This comes as the Gulf region is currently experiencing a major conflict as United States (US) and Israel forces strike Iran, prompting Iranian missile attacks across multiple Gulf States, escalating tensions and threatening regional stability.
The evacuation of the 25 Eswatini citizens was last evening confirmed by Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Pholile Shakantu, who also highlighted that there was still more Emaswati that needed repatriation from that region.
“His Majesty’s Government is pleased to provide an update on our mission to evacuate Emaswati citizens stranded in the Gulf region.
Today, we successfully repatriated 25 citizens from the United Arab Emirates, who arrived at King Mswati III International Airport this evening.
“While a significant part of this operation has been completed, there are still Emaswati, who need to be evacuated from other areas in the region.
This ongoing effort is guided by a direct command from His Majesty the King, reflecting his deep care for the welfare of all Emaswati, especially those in distress,” said the minister.
Shakantu further assured that their dedicated teams were actively working to ensure the safe return of these remaining citizens and were exploring all available avenues for their return.
