His Majesty King Mswati III returned to the country yesterday.
This follows a busy regional and international itinerary that took him to South Africa and Malaysia.
The king was accompanied by Inkhosikati LaFogiyane during the trip which began with his participation in the 46th Ordinary Summit of the Southern African Development Community (SADC) Heads of State and Government in Durban, South Africa.
The summit brought together regional leaders to deliberate on matters affecting Southern Africa including regional integration, economic development and cooperation.
Following the SADC engagement, the king proceeded to Malaysia for an official visit where he undertook engagements focused on industry and economic development.
During the Malaysian visit, His Majesty toured different industries as part of efforts to gain insight into the country’s industrial and economic activities. The engagements provided the king an opportunity to interact directly with Emaswati students abroad while also exposing the students to the king’s international engagements and the country’s broader diplomatic and economic relations.
Upon his return home, the king received a warm welcome at the King Mswati III International Airport where members of the royal family, various advisory councils and other well-wishers gathered to receive him.
The atmosphere at the airport became particularly lively when Lacwebetelako regiment broke into song and dance.
The regiment’s energetic performance transformed the arrival into a colourful traditional welcome with its members singing umgubho songs and dancing with visible excitement as they celebrated the king’s return.
The performance by Lacwebetelako reflected the traditional role of regiments in marking important royal occasions with song and dance serving as an expression of loyalty, celebration and communal participation.
For those gathered at the airport, the king’s return was therefore not simply a homecoming after an international trip, but also an occasion marked by a distinctive cultural spectacle of Emaswati welcoming their monarch.
