A student from the Southern Africa Nazarene University (SANU) died tragically after he was knocked down by a car.
The accident happened yesterday at around 7:30am between Kakhoza and Nazarene area. Information obtained from sources close to the matter was that the student, whose name is known to this publication but will be withheld as his next of kin could not be immediately reached, was doing his second year at SANU, pursuing a Primary Teacher’s Diploma (PTD) and was on his way to attend to his teaching practice when he met the unfortunate accident.
The sources alleged that the student was crossing the road on the left side of the ever busy MR3 highway, coming from Kakhoza direction, when a white Polo sedan, which was travelling at a very high speed towards Manzini City centre, emerged and knocked him down.
“He was rushed to the Raleigh Fitkin Memorial (RFM) Hospital, where he was unfortunately certified dead upon arrival,” the sources said.
Chief Police Information and Communications Officer (PICO) Senior Superintendent Phindile Vilakati confirmed the matter.
SANU Registrar, Sipho Mhlanga also confirmed the matter.
He saidt they had received reports as the management of the institution that one of their year two students, who was pursuing a PTD, was knocked down by a car near Kakhoza and died during the accident. He said they were still shocked by the accident.
Mhlanga extended his heartfelt condolences on behalf of SANU to the family, friends, university colleagues and relatives of the student for their loss.
