A woman was taken aback when she discovered her helper’s body dangling from the rafters at her home.
The body was discovered by the employer, who is a civil servant, last Friday morning at Zombodze.
Sources said the helper might have resolved to take her life in fear that she would be caught for allegedly stealing her employer’s money.
It is alleged that the 32-year-old woman had used her employer’s money to bet online without permission.
Sources close to the matter said the helper, who hailed from KaNcesi in the Hhohho region, had been employed by the civil servant who also has a Mobile Money business.
They said at one point, the employer called the helper on the phone and directed her to take a SIM card from the house and use it to send some money.
“She might have been tempted to use some of the money when she saw the balance after sending the money as told. It is suspected that she used about E2 700 to bet online,” alleged a source.

All seemed well at the household until the employer reportedly needed the SIM card. Her helper is said to have pretended not to know where it was, giving the impression that the card had been lost.
It was until the employer expressed that she would have the lost card replaced that she panicked.
“She thought her unlawful use of her employer’s money would be uncovered, so she took the easy way out,” a source said.
She committed suicide by hanging herself from the rafters of a storeroom at her employer’s home. The death of the 32-year-old woman was confirmed by acting Chief Police Information and Communications Officer Assistant Superintendent Nosipho Mnguni.
This incident happened barely two months after another punter committed suicide in the same area.
Likhwa Nkambule (19) of KaPhunga took his own life after reportedly losing his employer’s over E25 000 to online betting.
He had been employed to run a Mobile Money business at KaHlobile in Matsapha. On Monday, February 23, Nkambule did not show up with the day’s proceeds when he was expected to cash up.
When night fell, his employer reported him to the police as missing.
At around 4pm the following day, Nkambule’s body was found hanging from a tree at Zombodze.
This was after he was earlier spotted by herdsmen too close to the Mtilane River.
Two cellphones were reportedly found beneath the lifeless body.
One of these cellphones rang and caught the attention of a herdman who was passing by. It was after the phone was answered that the residents learned that Nkambule, who was unknown in the area, was a Mobile Money vendor.
