THE ministry of labour and social security has officially announced the opening of scholarship applications for students aspiring to pursue tertiary education in South Africa and Namibia and those who have been admitted at the University of Eswatini (UNESWA) Mbabane Campus.

This was shared by Principal Scholarship Officer Ncobile Dlamini on the Eswatini Broadcasting and Information Services (EBIS) yesterday who said applications opened yesterday and would close on October 31.

She emphasised that all applications must be submitted online through the Scholarship Loan Application System (SLAS), accessible at www.slas.gov.sz

Dlamini highlighted that the entire application process was free of charge, warning students to beware of individuals or entities who might attempt to demand payment for assistance.

“Students who need help in completing their applications are encouraged to contact our office for guidance. No fees will be charged for assistance,” she said.

For further support, applicants can visit the Scholarship Office located on the ground floor of the Old Income Tax Building (Etolishini) or call 2404 2515 during working hours.

The principal scholarshop officer clarified that only applicants with final offer letters from accredited universities or institutions recognised and sponsored by government are eligible to apply.

She further urged prospective students to familiarise themselves with the government priority list of programmes, which is available on the ministry’s Facebook page, official website and at the Scholarship Office. This list helps applicants align their chosen fields of study with national development priorities.

“For those wishing to study abroad, the ministry outlined that a minimum of 33 points is required, calculated from the best five passed subjects in the Eswatini General Certificate of Secondary Education (EGCSE) or equivalent.”

Applicants are reminded to read all instructions carefully before submitting their applications to avoid errors that could lead to disqualification.

“The scholarship programme remains one of government’s flagship initiatives aimed at promoting education, skills development and human capital growth,” the ministry of labour stated.
