HIS Majesty’s Correctional Services (HMCS) Commissioner General Phindile Lamakhosini Dlamini has clarified that the release of former Ngwempisi Member of Parliament (MP) Mthandeni Dube is not being handled in the same manner as other inmates benefiting from the recent royal pardon.

Dlamini emphasised that Dube’s release was subject to specific procedural requirements that had not yet been finalised.

She further clarified that HMCS has not provided any official date for his release.
“There are procedures to be followed before Mthandeni Dube can be released. It is not true that he was to be released with the other inmates granted pardon,” said Dlamini.

While public speculation has circulated regarding Dube’s potential release, HMCS maintained that no directive or timeline had been issued for his release from Matsapha Maximum Prison.

This clarification follows earlier reports suggesting that Dube was among the inmates listed for release under the Prerogative of Mercy Committee this month. The royal pardon, a traditional act of clemency extended by the monarchy, has seen several inmates released across the country. However, Dlamini stressed that Dube’s case remains distinct.
Dube was arrested in July, 2021.
