The persistent rains are expected to stop on Wednesday.

However, according to Forecaster Phephisa Sihlongonyane, the country is not yet out of the woods.

Sihlongonyane said the tropical low that caused devastation due to persistent rainfall over most parts of the country had moved to the Indian Ocean.

“While this has brought huge relief, the normal weather patterns associated with cold fronts and tropical moist air, which are common during the rainy season, are now taking centre stage,” said Sihlongonyane.

He explained that a cold front passed over the country on Saturday afternoon, resulting in the thunderstorms, rain showers and windy conditions experienced in some areas.

Sihlongonyane said yesterday and likely today, south-easterly winds would bring cool, moist air from the Indian Ocean.

This will result in mostly cloudy conditions with light rain and fog, remaining cool but cold in the Highveld.

He added that dry and warm weather conditions would return from Wednesday into Thursday.

Low temperatures, rain till mid-week

Mixed weather conditions are expected across the country this week, with rain and fog at the start, followed by warmer to hot conditions later on.

According to the Eswatini Meteorological Services, light rain and fog are expected today, mainly over the western and northern parts of the country.

Conditions will otherwise be cloudy with sunny intervals and generally cool, but cold in the Highveld.

Tomorrow, morning drizzle and fog are expected in some areas. The day will be cloudy with sunny intervals and cool overall, though cold conditions will persist in the Highveld.

On Wednesday, morning fog is expected in some places.

The weather will be mostly cloudy with partly cloudy intervals, remaining cool in most areas but becoming warm in the Lowveld.
