Highlanders are on the brink of appointing experienced South African tactician John Maduka as their new head coach, with the club expected to officially unveil him before the end of the week.

Information gathered by this publication indicates that the black and white giants have reached an agreement with the highly rated coach to replace Selaotse ‘Sly’ Mosala, who recently parted ways with the club after the expiry of his contract.

Sources close to the negotiations revealed that talks were concluded smoothly, with Maduka’s previous working relationship with members of the current Highlanders leadership playing a key role in sealing the deal.

“The club has agreed terms with the coach and he is expected to be unveiled before the end of the week. He has worked with some of the current management before, which made the negotiations much easier,” said the source.

The source stated that although the finer details of the contract remained unclear, Highlanders’ hierarchy was convinced Maduka was the ideal candidate to spearhead the club’s rebuilding project.

“I am not certain about the contractual arrangements, but he will be entrusted with the responsibility of taking the team to greater heights. The club is looking to build on its ambitions, and they believe his experience will be valuable.”

Highlanders spokesperson Thabiso ‘Taach’ Manyatsi confirmed the club was preparing to introduce a new head coach, but stopped short of naming Maduka.

“It is true that we will be unveiling a qualified coach with a wealth of experience. With regard to the name being mentioned, I would rather not comment or confirm anything at this stage. The club will communicate officially at the appropriate time,” he said.

Should the appointment be confirmed, Maduka would become one of the most accomplished coaches to take charge of the Black bull in recent years.

The CAF A Licence holder has built an impressive coaching résumé across Southern African football, earning a reputation for tactical discipline, calm leadership and developing competitive teams.

He most recently coached Magesi FC in South Africa’s Betway Premiership.

His expected arrival signals Highlanders’ intent to mount a serious challenge in the new season as the club looks to restore its status among the country’s elite after a period of inconsistency.

The capital city giants are expected to make an official announcement once all contractual formalities have been completed.
