Mayiwane Member of Parliament (MP) Sicelo Dlamini has urged Prime Minister Russell Mmiso Dlamini to refrain from using private jets belonging to private individuals, saying it appeared as though he was becoming accustomed to such privileges.
This comment was made during the adoption of the prime minister’s office report in the House of Assembly.
Dlamini noted that the prime minister had used a private jet owned by a businessman to return to Eswatini, a fact that he admitted.
He stated that while this was not an issue of good governance, the committee should not remain silent on the matter simply because the prime minister had acknowledged it.
Addressing the chair, Dlamini emphasised that when he raises an issue in Parliament, it is because he is fully informed.
He pointed out that this was not the first time the premier had used a private jet, noting that he had previously travelled from Lesotho to Eswatini in one.
Dlamini added that the prime minister appeared to be getting used to using private jets and that the committee should not ignore the issue because it is inappropriate.
“The finding is that the prime minister did use a private jet belonging to a certain businessman.

“The recommendation is that the prime minister should not use private jets again.
“He should absolutely refrain from travelling in someone’s private jet just because he has grown accustomed to it. There is no need for further investigation,” he said.
Meanwhile, Chairperson of the committee Nathi Hlophe said since the MP was on the floor, he should provide a clear recommendation as other MPs had done.
Moving for the adoption of the report, Hlophe stated that regarding the private jet issue, one of the ministers was using the jet and had offered the prime minister a lift as they were all returning to Eswatini.
He noted that no one anticipated any wrongdoing, but acknowledged the MP’s concerns.
He added that the prime minister had noted the concerns, but had not expected any issues to arise.
