PARLIAMENTARIANS are expected to receive E356 455 before tax in backpay allowances as government completes the payment of the remaining 85% of the 2025 Salary Review Collective Agreement.
The payments are expected to be made in about two weeks together with those of civil servants.
Minister of Finance Neal Rijkenberg confirmed that politicians are included in the salary review payout after government set aside about E850 million to complete the agreement. The money will cover the outstanding backpay for both politicians and civil servants.
The minister said the payment process started earlier this week after government received E2.9 billion in Southern African Customs Union (SACU) revenue on Monday. He explained that MPs would receive their payments at the same time as other public servants.
“Members of Parliament are also included in the payout and they would be receiving their pay next week with the rest of the civil servants,” said the minister.
Although each MP is expected to receive E356 455 before tax, the amount will be reduced after deductions under the Pay-As-You-Earn (PAYE) tax system. After tax, each MP is expected to take home about E238 825.
This is the second and final payment under the 2025 Salary Review Collective Agreement. Government paid the first 15% of the six-month backpay in October 2025, while the remaining 85% is now being processed.
The minister also confirmed that the Treasury Department has started uploading payroll information, beginning with allowances.
He explained that government normally starts processing salaries around the 12th of every month because public servants are paid from the 16th.
MPs had already received part of their salary review backpay in December 2025 after a 53% increase in their remuneration. However, the payment was affected by a Treasury system glitch, which resulted in the backpay being paid without tax deductions.
As a result, government later asked each MP to repay E20 758.27 to cover the outstanding tax that should have been deducted through the PAYE system. The issue was later addressed by the Treasury Department.
Meanwhile, MPs have welcomed the announcement that the outstanding salary review payments will finally be made.
They said they had been waiting for government to complete the process and were pleased that the remaining amount would soon be paid.
Some MPs also said they expect government to invite them to sign the collective agreement that will confirm the allowances to be paid this month.
They believe this will bring the salary review process to a close and provide clarity on their benefits.
The latest payment marks the final stage of implementing the 2025 Salary Review Collective Agreement for politicians and civil servants.
With the release of the remaining funds, government hopes to conclude the long-awaited salary review and settle all outstanding payments owed under the agreement.
