Media accreditation applications for the 19th edition of the MTN Bushfire, scheduled for May 29 – 31, have officially opened.
MTN Bushfire Communications Manager Phiwo Dhlamini confirmed this yesterday, inviting applications from journalists, travel writers, photographers, videographers, and bloggers from established and reputable national, regional, or international newspapers, magazines, news services, radio and television stations, as well as networks, including relevant online publications.
Dhlamini said stringers and freelancers with demonstrated placement were also encouraged to apply. The deadline for media accreditation applications is May 8.
“Beyond this date, no further applications will be accepted or considered for the 2026 edition of the festival,” said Dhlamini.
“With its roster of international talent and its innovative, environmentally sustainable, and socially inclusive programming, as well as its amazing spirit of diversity and celebration, MTN Bushfire is a major media event that attracts media practitioners and journalists from around the world,” added Dhlamini.
She further advised that spaces were limited, encouraging media to apply early.

Dhlamini said due to the volume of applications, only successful applicants would be contacted.
“Final media selections will be made at the festival’s discretion,” she said.
She added that applications could only be made through the press accreditation page on the MTN Bushfire website, where media are required to first fill out an application form provided by the Ministry of Information, Communications and Technology (ICT) before the festival can confirm accreditation.
“Accredited media will be able to attend media press conferences, request interviews with artists and access the front of stage for photos and videos. Media practitioners will also have access to the onsite designated media village, which serves as the official centre for media information and interviews, equipped with power and wireless internet, for a seamless, productive, and collaborative working experience,” explained Dhlamini.
She further clarified that media accreditation does not include any travel or accommodation unless specifically pre-arranged with MTN Bushfire. She advised that approved media practitioners secure their accommodation bookings early, as nearby lodgings fill up quickly.
Dhlamini said another option, such as purchasing camping or glamping passes, could be considered by accredited journalists.
“One of the leading sustainable festivals in Africa, MTN Bushfire’s forward-thinking environmental and social policies earned the festival the ‘Best Responsible Event’ award at the WTM African Responsible Tourism Awards, 2017. Named ‘Top African festival’ by the BBC and hailed by CNN as one of the ‘7 African music festivals you really have to see,’ MTN Bushfire is looking forward to reigniting the fire in the beautiful farmlands in the valley of Malkerns, for a family-friendly, eclectic celebration of some of the finest music in Africa and beyond,” said Dhlamini.
