The Ministry of Education and Training has strengthened the leadership of the Teaching Service Commission (TSC) with the swearing-in of newly-appointed Commissioner Peter Mamba.
The ceremony, held yesterday at the ministry offices, marked the official commencement of Mamba’s tenure as Commissioner, with the ministry expressing confidence that his experience and leadership will contribute meaningfully to the Commission’s mandate of ensuring an efficient, transparent and professional teaching service.
Addressing the ceremony, Ministry of Education and Training Principal Secretary Nanikie Mnisi congratulated Mamba on his appointment, describing it as both an honour and a significant responsibility that comes at an important time for the country’s education sector.
She said the TSC occupies a central position in the education system as it is entrusted with overseeing teacher management, safeguarding professional standards and ensuring that schools are served by competent and committed educators.
Mnisi said the Commission’s work has a direct impact on the quality of education delivered in classrooms, making the appointment of capable commissioners critical to the ministry’s broader efforts to improve learning outcomes nationwide. She encouraged Mamba to discharge his duties with integrity, fairness and accountability while remaining committed to excellence in every decision made by the Commission.
“The work of the TSC demands sound judgment, transparency and an unwavering commitment to the public interest. Your leadership will contribute significantly towards strengthening confidence in our education system,” she said.
The PS also stressed that collaboration among key stakeholders including the ministry, the Commission, school leadership, teachers and education partners would remain essential in addressing challenges facing the sector and delivering quality education for all pupils.
She noted that as government continues implementing reforms aimed at improving educational standards, strong institutional leadership will be necessary to ensure policies are translated into meaningful results in schools across the country.
For his part, Mamba officially accepted the responsibility entrusted to him through the oath of office, committing himself to serving the Commission and the nation with dedication, professionalism and integrity.
Mnisi noted that his appointment comes as the education sector continues to prioritise improved governance, effective teacher management and the promotion of high professional standards among educators.
She further noting that the TSC plays a pivotal role in matters relating to teachers, including upholding professionalism and supporting the efficient administration of the teaching service, making its leadership essential to the overall performance of the education system.
She then said the ministry looked forward to working closely with Commissioner Mamba as he begins his tenure, expressing confidence that his contribution will support ongoing efforts to strengthen the country’s education sector and ultimately improve learning opportunities and outcomes for every pupil.
