THE MTN Bushfire Firefly 2026 competition has received an impressive 240 applications from aspiring vocalists, singers, rappers and DJs eager to make their mark.

MTN Bushfire Firefly Project Manager Penny Bouwer confirmed the figure yesterday. She attributed the surge in interest to the series of dynamic activations held across the country, energising the youth and spotlighting fresh talent. Bouwer said she was excited about the response.

“The enthusiasm we’ve seen at our activations has been incredible. From Nhlangano’s Zam Zam Complex on January 23, Siteki’s Pick n Pay Complex on January 24, to The New Mall in Mbabane on January 30, and Jubilee Park in Manzini on January 31, we had about 60 aspiring artists perform live. These events have truly ignited a passion for music among our youth,” she said.

However, Bouwer was quick to clarify an important point. “Participation at the activations does not automatically enter you into the MTN Bushfire Firefly competition. To officially enter, artists must submit their applications online at www.bush-fire.com/firefly before the deadline,” she said.

She stressed that the deadline for submissions was tomorrow, urging all hopefuls to finalise their entries without delay.

Bouwer explained that the competition, powered by MTN Eswatini and part of the iconic MTN Bushfire Festival’s arts development initiatives, continued to call on all talented individuals aged between 16 to 35 to submit their original music and electronic press kits. She said entrants must present at least two original songs to qualify.

“MTN Bushfire Firefly is more than just a competition; it is a cultural movement aimed at elevating Eswatini’s music industry,” Bouwer emphasised.

She added that their goal was to provide artists with the tools, exposure, and opportunities they need to succeed locally and globally.

She further highlighted that the journey to the grand finale was both rigorous and rewarding. She said from the initial submissions, expert judges would select the top 20 finalists who would benefit from global artist promotion, MTN CallerTunez on boarding, and exclusive access to the Arts Round Table workshops.

“Public voting will then narrow this group to the top 10, who will receive performance stipends, branded merchandise, and valuable networking opportunities,” explained Bouwer.

She stated that the stakes were high for the top three winners, who would each take home premium mobile phones from MTN Eswatini and earn the coveted chance to headline a performance slot at the MTN Bushfire 2026 Festival, a platform that has launched the careers of notable past participants such as Symphony, Mandisa Mamba, Mzwaa, and Ace Julz.

“With just hours left to apply, the countdown is on for Eswatini’s rising stars to seize this unparalleled opportunity to shine on an international stage. Will you be the voice that sets the global stage alight? Visit www.bush-fire.com/firefly to submit your entry before the deadline tomorrow!”
