HIS Majesty King Mswati III has called on motorists and all road users to play their part in preventing road accidents.

The monarch pointed out that drink-driving remains one of the leading causes of road crashes, urging motorists to act responsibly.

“Everyone has a role to play in preventing accidents and must adhere to safety measures on our roads,” he said.

He further urged motorists to be mindful of other road users and avoid driving under the influence, but said those who wish to take alcoholic beverages should do so at home.

“Even if you are tempted to drink, do not do so while driving. Rather drink at home and go to sleep,” he advised.

His Majesty also mentioned that road accidents were inevitable not only in Eswatini, but across the world. Still, he emphasised the need for authorities and stakeholders to continuously analyse the causes of accidents and implement measures aimed at reducing them.

The King concluded by calling for the development of a culture of responsibility on the country’s roads, noting that improved emergency response must go hand in hand with safer driving behaviour.
