The Premier League of Eswatini (PLE) has thrown down the gauntlet to the corporate sector by unveiling a E2 million title sponsorship opportunity for the revived PLE Charity Cup.

Speaking after the official launch of the competition, PLE Chairman Polycarp Dlamini said the league was actively seeking a title sponsor to help expand the tournament’s impact on vulnerable communities while providing financial support to clubs at the start of the season.

“We are looking for a title sponsor and inviting companies to support this charitable cause. The money will help teams as the season begins, but organisations will also benefit through the building of homes, purchase of school shoes and meeting medical requirements, among other social needs,” said Dlamini.

He said the league had deliberately set the sponsorship package at E2 million to attract businesses looking to align their brands with meaningful community initiatives.

“We have set a E2 million package for any business or company that wants to become the title sponsor. It is a viable partnership that companies can build with football. Any organisation that wants to push community-based campaigns can come forward and use the PLE Charity Cup,” he added.

Dlamini explained that the league would work closely with the Deputy Prime Minister’s Office to identify deserving beneficiaries, ensuring that assistance reached families most in need.

He added that football remained a powerful vehicle for promoting social change, not only through the players on the pitch but also through the millions of supporters whose participation could transform lives.

“Football is good for health, even for supporters watching. People can vote for any team so that together we can meet the targets of this charitable initiative,” he said.

The Charity Cup was officially re-launched on Friday at The George Hotel in Manzini, marking the return of one of local football’s most recognised corporate social responsibility initiatives after years of absence.

The tournament has been launched with an initial E1.5 million commitment from the PLE, with the league hoping that corporate sponsorship will significantly increase the resources available for charitable projects across the country.

Supporters will determine the participating teams through a mobile voting platform by dialling *4055# or voting via the PLE website through the Sky Fly portal at E3 per vote. The six most-supported Premier League clubs will qualify for the tournament scheduled for September 27, while the top two National First Division teams will also compete for their own title.

Beyond the football, proceeds from the tournament will fund projects such as housing, education support, healthcare assistance and community development, reinforcing the PLE’s vision of using football as a catalyst for lasting social impact.
