The Standard Bank Choral Competition is heating up as 17 talented soloists emerged from 51 contestants to compete in the finals on May 25.
The eliminations, held at the Gorge Hotel on Sunday, showcased remarkable talent and dedication. Each contestant poured their heart into their performances, making the adjudicators’ job exceedingly challenging.
The excitement in the room was palpable as finalists were announced, igniting a wave of joy among the top performers.
Mlungisi Mango, who topped the Bass category with an impressive score of 82 points, expressed his exhilaration.
“Winning first place again feels incredible. I’m ready to give my best at the finals. This isn’t my first time; I’ve done it before!”
Nonsikelelo Dludlu, a proud first-place winner in a Soprano category with 78 points, also shared her excitement. “I’m going to bring my absolute best to the finals. This win was unexpecte and I’m thrilled to have the chance to showcase my talent on such a grand stage,” she said.
Yolanda Nyamane, who scored 76 points to secure the top position in the Alto category, was equally surprised by her achievement.
“I really didn’t expect to win. It’s a wonderful feeling and I’m excited to see what the finals will bring,” she remarked.
Sihle Gumbi, President of Eswatini National Choral Music Association, expressed gratitude towards everyone involved.
“A heartfelt thank you to the participants, adjudicators and sponsors who made this elimination possible. We’re looking forward to an extraordinary main event on May 25,” he stated.
Nomawethu Jonga, a representative from Standard Bank emphasised their commitment, saying, “It’s part of our mandate to give back and elevate the creative sector. We encourage all choristers to continue engaging with our stakeholders.”
