MTN Eswatini Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Jerry Soko says the visit by MTN Group Senior Vice President Ebenezer Asante is expected to help accelerate investment and digital development in the kingdom.

Asante arrived in the country yesterday for engagements with MTN Eswatini’s leadership on the company’s strategy, plans and ambitions for the local market.

He was welcomed by MTN Eswatini staff at the company’s headquarters in Ezulwini through a cultural performance. Asante was further presented with lihiya and ligcebesha, before proceeding to the CEO’s office for a private meeting with the company’s leadership.

Soko said one of the main objectives of the visit was to secure support from the MTN Group for increased investment locally.

“What excites us the most is getting his support in terms of accelerating investment in Eswatini. We are speaking to him about the plans for the next three years,” Soko said.

He said MTN Eswatini would present its three-year budget and plans, which included increased investment in new technology and digital services.

Soko said the company was positioning Eswatini as a test-bed for digital innovation and new digital products.

Among the areas expected to be discussed is Voice over LTE (VoLTE), as well as plans to accelerate the country’s digitalisation.

“We have recently been launching innovative products, digital products. We will be speaking to him about the next phase of innovations that we want to launch,” Soko said.

He said Asante’s visit also demonstrated MTN Group’s commitment to supporting the Eswatini market.

Soko said the discussions would not only focus on investment but also on how MTN could work with government to support the country’s digital development goals.

Soko said Asante was, during his visit, expected to meet the principal secretary in the ministry of information, communications and technology as the minister was out of the country as well as other strategic partners.

Soko described the visit as important for MTN Eswatini as the company looks ahead to the next three years and seeks to expand its contribution to the country’s digital transformation.
