Mbabane – A sum of E47 000 has reportedly been stolen from a motor vehicle which was parked at Simunye Plaza.
The money, belonging to a 45-year-old man from Maphungwane, was allegedly taken on Saturday.
Acting Deputy Police Information and Communications Officer (PICO) Inspector Mazwi Ndzimandze stated that the victim, who works as a moneylender, had just finished collecting payments from his clients when he stopped at Simunye Plaza.
After parking his Toyota Corolla, he reportedly entered a nearby shop, leaving the cash inside the vehicle. Upon returning a short while later, he discovered that his vehicle had been broken into. Entry was allegedly gained through one of the doors and the cash was stolen.
The matter was subsequently reported to the police, who have opened a case of theft. Ndzimandze confirmed that investigations are ongoing and no arrests have been made at this stage. “Police are working to establish the circumstances surrounding the break-in and to identify the suspect or suspects involved,” he said.

Authorities have reminded the public to exercise caution when handling or transporting large sums of money. Criminals often target individuals who leave valuables unattended in vehicles.
Ndzimandze stressed that leaving money or other valuable items in plain sight increases the risk of theft. He encouraged citizens to use digital and electronic financial platforms to conduct transactions, as these are generally safer and reduce the need to carry large amounts of cash.
“Carrying substantial sums of money not only puts property at risk but may also endanger the life of the person in possession of the cash. Citizens must remain vigilant, prioritise personal safety, and take proactive measures to avoid falling victim to crime,” he added.
