Prime Minister Russell Mmiso Dlamini has reaffirmed Eswatini’s commitment to strengthening cooperation with South Africa in higher education, science, innovation and information and communication technology (ICT).

This follows a courtesy visit by South Africa’s Minister of Higher Education, Science and Technology Blade Nzimande at the Private and Cabinet Office yesterday afternoon.

During the meeting, Nzimande conveyed appreciation on behalf of the Government and people of the Republic of South Africa for Eswatini’s contribution and support during South Africa’s liberation struggle.

The discussions also focused on enhancing collaboration between the two neighbouring countries in key development sectors, particularly higher education, scientific research, innovation and ICT.

Dlamini highlighted Eswatini’s interest in deepening bilateral relations and creating partnerships that would contribute to the growth of knowledge-based industries and technological advancement.

He further noted that the kingdom was working towards the establishment of the SADC University of Technology, an institution expected to place innovation and ICT at the centre of its operations.

According to information shared during the meeting, the proposed university is intended to support regional development by promoting technological innovation, research and skills development across the Southern African region.

The two leaders agreed to explore potential areas of cooperation and partnership that could assist in advancing the initiative and strengthening educational and technological links between Eswatini and South Africa.

The meeting forms part of ongoing efforts by the two countries to enhance bilateral relations and expand cooperation in sectors considered critical for economic growth and regional development.
