A 70-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly raping his 13-year-old son.
This incident is reported to have happened between the months of February up to July 21, 2026 at Mliba.
According to information provided by the Royal Eswatini Police Service (REPS) on their official Facebook page, the child used to spend most of his days at a neighbouring homestead, where he was working but would occasionally visit home.
It is reported that on the days he visited home, the minor was allegedly sexually assaulted by the suspect. The child is said to have reported the matter several times to some adults within the community with futile attempts and on Saturday, a concerned citizen eventually reported the matter to the police.
An investigation was launched, promptly leading to the arrest of the suspect on the same day.
The REPS commended the community for being upstanding citizens and showing concern by reporting the matter to the police.
“It is the responsibility of all adults to keep children safe and secure in our communities. Speak out against child abuse, we are past the era of tibi tendlu (family secrets),” said the REPS.
The suspect is expected to appear before the Manzini Magistrate’s Court today, where he will answer on the allegations levelled against him.
