SOCCER – Local international defender Lindo Mkhonta says he feels deeply honoured to receive the Most Disciplined Player Award at Zesco United.
The Zambian outfit hosted the 2025/26 End-of-Season Awards Gala at Mokorro Hotel, bringing together players, club officials, sponsors, stakeholders and distinguished guests to celebrate a memorable football season.
Reacting after receiving the award, Mkhonta said it encouraged him to do even better next season.
“This award means a lot to me. It really shows the kind of person I am. Most people sent me congratulatory messages, saying I deserve it. This encourages me to do even better next season and I’m looking forward to more awards,” he said.

The Zesco United captain, however, acknowledged that the past season was not good for them but remains confident that things will change.
“In the upcoming season, our targets are high, knowing very well that we did not do well.
“We are aware of the expectations from our supporters; what they want are good results. So we promise to do our utmost best to take ZESCO back to where it belongs. We want to compete, we want to win domestic trophies and return to Africa,” he said.
Mkhonta joined the Ndola-based outfit in 2023 from Young Buffaloes and quickly became a key figure in the team.
Known for his solid defensive skills and tactical awareness, the 34-year-old has earned praise from supporters and coaching staff alike. He will remain with the club until next year after extending his contract towards the end of last year.
