Reading Time: 2 minutes

It’s the dream final everyone anticipated.

Defending champions Manzini Central High School have set up a blockbuster rematch against Evelyn Baring High School (EBHS) in the 2025 INSTACASH ESSA Schools Ball Games, after both schools emerged victorious in their semi-final clashes held yesterday at King Sobhuza II Memorial Stadium.

Champions March On
In the first semi-final, Manzini Central took on a spirited Mpaka High School side from Lubombo. Though Mpaka impressed with their silky possession play and individual flair, it was the Manzini giants who were ruthless when it mattered most, cruising to a clinical 3-1 victory.

It took just two minutes for Manzini Central to assert dominance, with MTN Premier League Sisonkhe star Quality Dlamini opening the scoring via a cheeky indirect free kick. That early goal set the tone for a pulsating clash.

Mpaka, however, did not go down without a fight. Midfield maestro Sibonelo Vilakati pulled the strings with flair and confidence, dictating the tempo and pushing his team forward. Despite his efforts, their attacking final third let them down.

With the match hanging in the balance, Njabulo Gama currently on loan at Lozitha Spurs from Young Buffaloes stepped up for Manzini Central. He bagged a memorable brace, sealing the result and ensuring the champions booked their spot in yet another national final.

EBHS Grind Out Gritty Win
The second semi-final was a more cagey, tactical affair. Evelyn Baring High School (EBHS) locked horns with Nhlangano Central, with both sides showing defensive resilience and a disciplined structure.

The game’s only goal came from midfield general Simanga ‘Kante’ Magagula, who coolly slotted home the winner. His intelligent movement and finish proved decisive, propelling EBHS into the grand finale and setting up a shot at long-awaited redemption.

Revenge or Repeat?
The upcoming final carries extra spice, with these two powerhouses having met at the same stage last year. In that 2024 clash, held at Somhlolo National Stadium, Manzini Central demolished EBHS 6-1 in a performance that stunned the nation.

That humiliation still lingers for Evelyn Baring’s players and supporters who will be out for blood in this year’s grudge match. Revenge is on their minds.

Beyond pride and bragging rights, the winning school will also walk away with a handsome E35 000 cash prize courtesy of Instacash.

Off-Field Drama Mars EBHS Victory
Unfortunately, the day wasn’t without incident. Post-match celebrations were overshadowed by ugly scenes as two EBHS players were reportedly stoned by furious Nhlangano Central supporters following Magagula’s match-winning goal.

Paramedics were quick to respond, stabilising the visibly shaken players. ESSA officials are expected to investigate the incident and consider disciplinary measures.

As the countdown to the grand finale begins, one thing is certain: only one school will reign supreme and the whole nation will be watching.
