The eighth edition of the Standard Bank Luju Festival has been officially launched.
The launch took place at the festival’s home, Malandelas, last evening where it was revealed that last year’s edition generated E2.5 million through small and medium enterprises (SMEs). Over 10,000 people from 26 countries attended the festival last year.
The launch revealed many exciting new features and additions for the upcoming show.
The festival is set to deliver an exciting line-up of local and regional talent with legendary singer Shwi Nomtekhala among the headliners. Joining him on stage will be South African stars Zola 7 and Nasty C alongside The Masekela Band featuring the music of the late jazz legend Hugh Masekela.
Festivalgoers can also look forward to performances by Wandile Mbambeni, Mandisi Dyantyis and Thando Zide.

The festival further announced that local acts including Oriiginelle, Amagagu and Mandisa Mamba will also take the stage during the festival.
This year’s event will also run over the weekend, Saturday and Sunday, which is different from the past seven years, which took place only on Saturday with Friday being the culinary event.
This year, the event will also see Jay and Coco and Culinary winner Eswatini’s very own Chef Sive as part of this year’s culinary workshop. Chef Sive said he was delighted to be back for the event as a speaker and cannot wait to share culinary knowledge and skills with food lovers.
Standard Bank Chief Executive (CE) Mvuselelo Fakudze emphasised the importance of their initiative Phokophela Sinawe and how it will be a catalyst for growth and development. Fakudze said the bank was proud and honoured to spearhead the event and looks forward to hosting the event for more years.
Minister of Tourism and Environmental Affairs Jane Mkhonta, representing Prime Minister Russell Mmiso Dlamini, said people around the world were constantly seeking cultural experiences, which is what Luju offers. She said festivals such as Luju demonstrate how international events should be delivered. She also encouraged young creatives and designers to take advantage of the festival and use it as an investment.
The festival is set for August 1 and 2 and tickets are already available for sale.
